Dialogue with President on the basis of Khaleda’s EC proposals: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said on Friday that the dialogue with President Abdul Hamid will be based on the proposals of the party chairperson Khaleda Zia regarding the Election Commission formation.

“An independent election commission is needed for holding free, fair and impartial elections and we will meet President Abdul Hamid for talks in light of the proposals made by Khaleda Zia,” senior party leader Fakhrul said.

He told this to reporters after paying tributes to the grave of the party founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka on Friday noon, marking the Victory Day.

He also alleged that the Awami League is running the country in an autocratic and authoritarian manner in order to eliminate political opponents.

“One-party rule has been established in the country in an autocratic and authoritarian manner only to suppress different opinions and political opponents,” Fakhrul said.
